Ponderous

Today I’ve been thinking about the language of computers. There’s a lot of violence in there.

When I’m on the computer I’m constantly RIPPING and BURNING. Some folks are “HACKERS.” Every URL starts with two SLASHES in front of the address. A major malfunction is a CRASH.

Is this overcompensation? Do computer users and designers use dramatic words to describe their craft in order to compensate for the sedentary nature of their occupation? Granted, when business is humming along nicely but reliant on the computer and the computer suddenly stops, it’s pretty dramatic.

This led me to look critically at my keyboard. I noticed little curious things about the act of typing:

You can achieve SEX with one hand but it takes both hands for LOVE
You can KILL with one hand but it takes two hands to HEAL
You can get WET with one hand but it takes two hands to DRY
GREED is easily one handed but CHARITY takes two hands
MILK is one handed, BREAD is one handed, although CANDY takes two hands.
FEAR can be achieved with one hand, HOPE takes two
WEEDS are one handed, FLOWERS are two handed
SERVE with one hand, LEAD with two

Perhaps I’m floundering again, trying to be poetic but I found it interesting to ponder.

AHH - but what is the longest word you can type with one hand :)

I have to type most words with one finger -- and I have to look at the keyboard while I do it.

I don't know. I was hoping you did.....thought maybe you would have figured it out...your good at all that stuff :)

Speaking of a patrol sgt....you should post your song about him...I'm assuming your refering to the one who's initials are PP

I heard a question, and came running with the answer:
1)For the left hand the word "STEWARDESSES" is the longest word that can be typed and not cross the forbidden right hand zone. For the right hand the word "LOLLIPOP" is the longest, at least in the English language.
2) not that you asked however "TYPEWRITER" is the longest word that can be typed using the letters only one row of the key board.
Ah, Mr. Wizard may now rest.

Wow....

I am sure to think about other comparisions now, as if I didn't spend enough time wasted at the keyboard.

Profoundly fun symbolism!

R - I wouldn't touch that. well, I mean.. well, never mind, touch what you want

L - okay, tell me already!

John - my dad's a fast hunt'n'pecker (which is kind of funny if you say it fast). there is also a patrol sgt I work with who used to be a dispatcher; he used to say he could type 50 words per minute, 25 with each finger (and it was true!)

Pete - excellent. I knew you'd have the answer.

J - thanks. Here's to sleepless nights dreaming of key combinations
